Medical and rehabilitation expenses
A NSW CTP insurer may pay reasonable and necessary medical and rehabilitation expenses that relate to the motor accident injury. This can include physiotherapy when the applicable claim and treatment requirements are met.
Early treatment
After notification of injury, the insurer may approve a GP consultation and two further treatment consultations before a full claim is made. Access is subject to insurer approval. More than two treatment sessions generally requires a personal injury claim and further approval.
Travel to appointments
SIRA lists the cost of travelling to and from appointments among medical expenses that may be claimed. Ask the insurer what travel is approved, which rates or limits apply and what evidence is required before incurring significant costs.
Keep useful records
- Treatment approval
- Appointment dates
- Kilometres and destinations
- Public-transport or other travel receipts
- Claim number and insurer correspondence
- Copies of submitted reimbursement forms
If the insurer declines payment
Ask for the decision and reasons in writing. The clinic can explain the treatment provided and any request submitted, but claim entitlement and reimbursement decisions are made by the insurer. CTP Assist can provide scheme information.
