01

What is an AHTR?

The Allied Health Treatment Request is the current SIRA form used by allied health practitioners to outline a person’s presentation, functional goals, treatment plan, progress and barriers to recovery.

It replaced the former Allied Health Recovery Request. Most CTP insurers require an AHTR when further treatment is requested after the first treatment on a claim, apart from approved early intervention sessions.

02

What the insurer considers

  • How the proposed treatment relates to the crash injury
  • Current function and participation restrictions
  • Goals that are specific and measurable
  • Progress shown by appropriate outcome measures
  • Why the proposed treatment is reasonable and necessary
03

When a decision is expected

SIRA states that a CTP insurer must make a decision within 10 working days after receiving a treatment request. If no response is received, the provider should contact the insurer to confirm the status; silence should not be treated as approval.

04

While approval is pending

Confirm which sessions are already authorised before attending further appointments. The clinic can clarify what has been requested, but decisions about claim liability and treatment funding are made by the insurer.

05

If treatment is partly approved or declined

The insurer should provide its decision in writing and explain a partial or full decline. Ask the insurer or CTP Assist about the available review pathway. Physiotherapy advice is clinical and does not replace legal advice about the claim.
